In the 21st century, the building of new interesting mixed-use developments has continued in Rastilankallio, central Vuosaari and Aurinkolahti.

In addition to seaside areas of high-rise housing, new low-rise housing areas have been built - and are being built - in places such as Central Vuosaari and Ramsinranta. The population of Vuosaari is now around 33,000 and the projection for 2018 is 40,000. The new harbour and the planned office area next to it will provide a significant concentration of future workplaces.
